The UBTECH Cruzr Y1 combines autonomous mobility with precise robotic manipulation and was developed for demanding tasks in production, logistics, and industrial automation. Unlike a classic transport robot, the Cruzr Y1 can not only move materials from one location to another, but can independently pick up, sort, position, and transfer them to machines or workstations using its two robotic arms.
This makes the Cruzr Y1 part of a new generation of mobile manipulators that combine transport and handling within a single robot system. You can find further robotics solutions from the manufacturer on our page dedicated to UBTECH robots.
Two 7-axis arms for precise material handling
The central feature of the UBTECH Cruzr Y1 is its two movable 7-axis robotic arms. With an arm length of 750 mm each, they provide a large range of motion and can jointly handle loads of up to 10 kg.
This makes the industrial robot suitable for various gripping, lifting, sorting, and placing tasks. Depending on the application, different end-effectors can be used, allowing for the picking up and moving of items such as cardboard boxes, containers, workpieces, or other industrial materials.
The combination of a mobile platform and dual-arm manipulation allows the Cruzr Y1 to connect multiple work steps. Material can be transported autonomously to a workstation, where it can be directly processed further or handed over to a machine.
Autonomous navigation in dynamic industrial environments
The UBTECH Cruzr Y1 features an omnidirectional drive platform, allowing it to move flexibly in various directions. Especially in production halls, warehouses, and areas with limited space, this agility offers advantages over classic mobile platforms.
For autonomous orientation, the Cruzr Y1 utilizes technologies including laser SLAM and VSLAM. LiDAR, RGBD cameras, stereovision, ToF sensors, and other safety sensors support the spatial perception of its surroundings.
This allows the robot to recognize obstacles and changes in its environment and account for them during navigation. This is particularly relevant when employees, transport carts, or other mobile systems are moving within the same work area.
Flexible working range up to 1.8 meters
In addition to its robotic arms, the Cruzr Y1 possesses a vertical lifting unit. This allows its working range to be extended from floor level up to a height of 1,800 mm.
The mobile manipulator can thus pick up materials from low load carriers and subsequently transfer them to shelves, workstations, or machines, for example. Especially with varying transfer heights, this combination of vertical movement, robotic arms, and a mobile platform creates additional flexibility.

Automated palletizing and depalletizing
An important area of application for the UBTECH Cruzr Y1 is automated palletizing and depalletizing. The robot can recognize, pick up, and position cardboard boxes or containers according to a defined process.
Particularly interesting here is the ability to process objects that are not exclusively perfectly aligned. Intelligent sensor technology and object recognition assist the robot in capturing various positions and arrangements.
As a result, the Cruzr Y1 can represent an alternative to fully stationary palletizing solutions, particularly for flexible material flows.
Sorting, picking, and material transport
The Cruzr Y1 also opens up various automation possibilities within intralogistics. It can transport materials between storage areas, production lines, machines, and workstations and subsequently handle them actively.
For example, containers or components can be picked up, transported, sorted, and handed over to the next process step. Recurring walking and transport routes can thus be reduced, and employees can be relieved of monotonous handling tasks.
The decisive difference from a classic AMR lies in its manipulation capability: while many autonomous mobile robots merely transport a load, the Cruzr Y1 can independently interact with the transported objects.
Machine tending with a mobile industrial robot
Another area of application is automated machine tending. The UBTECH Cruzr Y1 can transport materials or workpieces to a machine, pick them up, and provide them for the next processing step.
After a production process is complete, the robot can remove components again and transport them on to the next process step. Consequently, transport, machine operation, and material handling can be combined within a cohesive automated process.
Possible applications arise, for example, at CNC systems, injection molding machines, or other production systems with recurring loading and unloading processes.
Embodied AI for more intelligent robotics
In the Cruzr Y1, the intelligent processing of environmental information plays an important role alongside mechanics. UBTECH pursues an embodied AI approach, where perception, movement, and action are combined within a single robot system.
The intention is that the robot should not exclusively repeat rigid movement sequences, but rather capture information about its environment and use it to execute its tasks.
This development is an essential component of modern mobile and humanoid robots, as industrial work environments are often not completely standardized or immutable.
Flexible automation instead of rigid robot cells
The UBTECH Cruzr Y1 positions itself between classic industrial robots and autonomous mobile robots. A stationary robotic arm offers high manipulation capability but is tied to a fixed workstation. A classic AMR can move flexibly but generally lacks comparable gripping capabilities.
The Cruzr Y1 combines both concepts. This allows a robot to approach different stations and take on various tasks there. This flexibility can be particularly interesting for varying production processes, multiple machines, or changing transfer points.
Deploying the UBTECH Cruzr Y1 for production and logistics
Whether the UBTECH Cruzr Y1 is suitable for a specific process depends on various factors. These include, among other things, the weight and dimensions of the objects, necessary gripping points, transport routes, aisle widths, working heights, cycle times, and the existing infrastructure.
Before integration, the entire process should therefore be considered. Terra Robotics supports companies in the selection, planning, and integration of professional robotics solutions and, together with the customer, checks whether the Cruzr Y1 is suitable for material transport, machine tending, palletizing, sorting, or other automation tasks.
