DOBOT Nova2 Coffee Bar: automated coffee service in a compact space
The DOBOT Nova2 Coffee Bar is an integrated robotic coffee station for commercial locations where beverages need to be dispensed in a reproducible, eye-catching manner with minimal ongoing operational effort. The self-contained station features a six-axis DOBOT Nova 2 cobot, professional coffee and refrigeration technology, syrup dispensing, ice production, and cup and lid dispensing, all working together as a coordinated overall system. Customers select their beverage via the integrated touch display, while the robot arm handles the necessary preparation steps inside the station.
This makes the automated coffee bar particularly suitable for shopping centers, office buildings, hotels, universities, train stations, airports, and events. It combines beverage dispensing with robotics to create a visible customer experience, though it does not replace the operational tasks associated with refilling, cleaning inspections, hygiene, maintenance, and fault management.
Coffee preparation in 45 to 90 seconds
Depending on the selected beverage, the specified preparation time is approximately 45 to 90 seconds per cup. Standardized movement sequences and defined recipe parameters enable a consistent process flow from placing the cup to dispensing. The current configuration supports 20 to 30 customizable hot and cold beverages. This can include classic coffee specialties, milk-based drinks, flavored varieties, and chilled beverages.
Four automatic syrup channels expand the recipe possibilities. The actual beverage selection depends on the ordered configuration, the ingredients used, and the recipes set up locally. This allows operators to adapt the range to the target group, location, and time of day without having to fundamentally rebuild the mechanical station.
DOBOT Nova 2 cobot for precise cup handling
At the heart of the coffee station is the collaborative DOBOT Nova 2 robot arm. Its six axes enable movements from various angles within the compact kiosk. With a 2 kg payload, 625 mm reach, and a repeatability of ±0.05 mm, the cobot is designed for light, repetitive handling tasks such as gripping, positioning, and handing over beverage cups.
The robot arm weighs only 11 kg and has an IP54 protection rating. Its compact design is specifically suited for commercial and customer-facing automation applications. The integrated collision detection supports controlled operation. In the Coffee Bar, the cobot works within the provided enclosure, keeping the actual preparation area separated from the customer area. Further information on the robot used can be found at DOBOT Nova 2 and on the DOBOT manufacturer page.
All-in-one coffee kiosk for space-constrained locations
The station listed on the current Terra product page has dimensions of approximately 1,500 × 1,300 × 2,000 mm and requires around 1.95 m² of floor space. This allows it to be integrated even where a classic café area would not be economically or spatially viable. The system weight of around 500 kg requires a sufficiently load-bearing and level installation area.
Equipment includes the robot station, coffee preparation, milk cooling, syrup dispensing, ice production, and cup and lid management. The current configuration specifies capacities of up to 160 cups and 160 lids, 2 kg of coffee beans, 6 liters of chilled milk, and four syrup containers of 750 ml each. The actual range between two refills depends on the beverage mix, cup size, and recipe consumption.
Digital ordering and personalized customer experience
A 10.1-inch touchscreen serves as the central ordering interface. A barcode scanner, voice prompts, and an advertising display are also provided. This allows the station to not only dispense beverages but also act as a visible digital contact point at the location. Menus, promotional notices, and visual content can be designed to match the respective business.
The specific payment and software interface must be coordinated for the intended market and operator process before ordering. Depending on the project and configuration, local payment providers, POS systems, voucher codes, or individual user interfaces may require additional integration. Further robotics solutions for cafés, hotels, and restaurants can be found in the Service Robots for Gastronomy section.
Capacity for high-traffic locations
The DOBOT Nova2 Coffee Bar is designed for continuous beverage dispensing and long operating hours. The station can generally be used outside of classic café hours, provided that ingredients, cups, lids, and operating supplies are sufficiently available. However, fully unattended continuous operation does not equate to being maintenance-free.
Operators must plan for regular refilling, inspection, and cleaning intervals. The availability of power, water, sewage, network, and, if necessary, external cooling or ventilation must also be checked at the location. Especially at airports, train stations, universities, or office complexes, a clearly defined service plan can ensure operational readiness during peak times.
Automatic cleaning supports daily operation
Product documentation cites automatic deep cleaning and high-temperature sterilization as integrated features. These programs facilitate standardized cleaning routines and can reduce manual effort. However, they do not replace the mandatory operator duties, visual inspections, and manual hygiene steps on accessible components.
Cleaning schedules, water quality, the milk system, ingredients used, and local hygiene requirements must be considered during commissioning. For reliable operation, responsibilities, cleaning cycles, refilling processes, and technical inspections should be clearly documented and the responsible personnel trained accordingly.
Assessing economic viability by location
The economic benefit of a robot coffee bar depends primarily on location frequency, sales hours, beverage price, cost of goods, service costs, and actual utilization. The compact footprint can enable the development of areas where a classic café with a seating area would not be feasible. At the same time, the visible robot arm creates attention and can position the station as an experience and marketing element.
A robust calculation should not only consider potential personnel savings. Refilling effort, cleaning, maintenance, payment fees, consumables, site rental costs, and technical support must also be included in the assessment. Information on alternative financing and operating models can be found under Robot as a Service.
Planning and integrating the DOBOT Nova2 Coffee Bar
Before ordering, the installation area, floor load, power supply, water and sewage connections, network, accessibility for maintenance, as well as the desired beverage and payment concept should be checked. Transport routes, door widths, installation, and regional hygiene regulations must also be part of the project planning.
Terra Robotics supports the configuration, site inspection, and technical coordination of the automated coffee bar. Through the contact form for robotics projects, operators can provide details on the location, expected frequency, beverage assortment, and desired operating model. This helps to clarify which equipment, software integration, and services are required for the planned location.
