DOBOT CR 30H: Heavy-Duty Cobot for High Productivity
The DOBOT CR 30H is a collaborative 6-axis robot arm for automation tasks that require high payload, long reach, and short cycle times. With a maximum payload of 30 kg, a reach of 1,800 mm, and a repeatability of ±0.05 mm, the platform is suitable for palletizing, packaging, machine tending, material handling, and the assembly of larger components. The combination of high performance and a collaborative design is primarily aimed at manufacturing companies, integrators, and logistics operations looking to make heavy manual processes more ergonomic and reproducible.
30 kg Payload for Heavy Workpieces and End Effectors
The 30 kg payload provides capacity for larger boxes, containers, metal components, battery modules, and robust gripping systems. When designing the system, it must be taken into account that the total load includes not only the workpiece but also grippers, adapters, sensors, cables, and other attachments. The center of gravity and motion dynamics further influence the load that can be safely moved throughout the entire workspace.
With its reach of 1,800 mm, the CR 30H can access multiple transfer points, pallet positions, or machine openings from a central installation point. Floor, wall, and ceiling mounting allow for an installation adapted to the facility layout. You can find further solutions for heavy gripping, assembly, and transfer processes on our page regarding Assembly and Handling.
High Speed for Palletizing and Packaging
The end axes of the CR 30H reach joint speeds of up to 300° per second. The HyperMove motion control system adjusts acceleration according to the load and motion sequence and, according to the manufacturer, increases efficiency by more than 20 percent compared to comparable solutions. For palletizing and handling applications, DOBOT cites a guideline of up to ten parts per minute. However, the actual achievable performance depends on product weight, gripper, conveyor technology, pallet pattern, stroke distance, and the safety concept.
According to the manufacturer, advanced vibration suppression limits the oscillation amplitude to less than 0.3 mm, even under full load. This allows the robot to stabilize faster after dynamic movements and place workpieces in a controlled manner. For high pallets or changing carton formats, the cobot can be combined with vacuum grippers, multi-circuit gripping systems, and a suitable lifting column. You can find suitable components in the DOBOT Accessories section.
Machine Tending and Heavy Material Handling
For CNC, laser, and machining equipment, the CR 30H can pick up raw parts, load them into a fixture, and remove processed components after the process is complete. The long reach allows access to machine openings, storage areas, and testing stations without having to reposition the robot between each process step. Via machine communication, doors, clamping devices, conveyor technology, and machining approvals can be integrated into the robot's workflow.
The platform also offers advantages in material handling. Larger workpiece carriers, wheel hubs, seat components, or battery modules can be moved between production stations and precisely aligned. For applications with randomly provided parts, a 2D or 3D vision system can be added for localization and position correction. Further automation solutions for manufacturing and logistics can be found in our Industry section.
Three Variants for Different Requirements
The CR-30H platform is offered in several versions. The standard version is designed for high productivity and reliable heavy-duty handling. The CR 30HT adds integrated joint torque sensors and enables highly intuitive one-handed direct teaching. Motion positions and process paths can thus be taught directly on the robot. The sensors also support a rapid response to unexpected contact.
A "Food" version is available for food and beverage applications. It uses NSF-certified components, food-grade lubricants, and a low-gap, easy-to-clean surface. This makes it suitable, for example, for carton palletizing, raw material handling, and packaging processes in dairy, frozen food, and other food production facilities. The specific suitability for direct product contact and the cleaning procedures used must be checked on a project-specific basis.
Robust Construction and Stable Motion Control
According to the latest manufacturer specifications, the robot body has an IP67 protection rating and is thus protected against dust and the temporary ingress of water under defined conditions. For processes involving oil, aggressive cleaning agents, or special hygiene standards, all materials, seals, tools, and cables must still be evaluated separately.
A 1 kHz control cycle reduces delays during fast movements and supports controlled motion paths without heavy overshoot. In the event of a power failure, a fail-safe electromagnetic brake activates automatically and, according to the manufacturer, limits the movement of the end effector to less than one millimeter. These features are particularly relevant for heavy loads, but they do not replace a full risk assessment of the system.
Interfaces and Programming for Existing Production Facilities
The CR 30H can be programmed via DobotStudio Pro as well as a teach pendant, PC, or Android application. The controller provides Ethernet interfaces for TCP/IP, Modbus TCP, EtherNet/IP, and PROFINET, as well as RS485 for Modbus RTU. Extensive digital and analog inputs and outputs facilitate connection to PLCs, sensors, valves, conveyor technology, and machine controls.
At the tool end, voltage supply, digital inputs and outputs, and RS485 are available. This allows compatible vacuum grippers, mechanical grippers, sensors, and other end effectors to be connected directly. The specific tool selection should be based on payload, center of gravity, gripping security, environmental conditions, and the desired cycle time. Further cobot models and automation solutions can be found on our DOBOT manufacturer page.
Planning Collaborative Safety Correctly
Despite its collaborative design, the CR 30H cannot be operated globally without protective measures. High loads, fast movements, sharp-edged workpieces, or dangerous process tools may make scanners, safety zones, or an enclosure necessary. The specific system must always be individually assessed, secured, and validated.
Buying and Professionally Integrating the DOBOT CR 30H
Terra Robotics provides support in selecting the appropriate version, end effector, and system layout. Before starting a project, workpiece weight, gripping points, reach, pallet or machine layout, cycle time, interfaces, and safety requirements should be defined. A proof of concept with real workpieces shows early on whether gripping security, stability, and process performance are reliably achieved.
