Unitree A2-W Series Robot Dogs: Maximum Efficiency and Autonomy via Wheel-Leg Combination
The Unitree A2-W series sets new standards for wheeled, quadrupedal robotic systems in industry, research, and autonomous inspection. Through the innovative combination of flexible leg mechanics and a highly efficient wheel drive, the platform covers long distances extremely quickly while simultaneously overcoming challenging obstacles. Available as the versatile A2-W Standard Edition as well as the advanced A2-W Pro Edition, the robot offers the ideal foundation for any application requirement. The main advantage (USP) lies in the drastic increase in range and efficiency while maintaining climbing capability, alongside powerful onboard computing units for complex developments.
Highlights of the Unitree A2-W Standard
- Wheel-leg configuration: Combines the speed and efficiency of wheels on flat terrain with the all-terrain capability of legs on obstacle courses.
- High endurance & range: Achieves up to 20 km range (4–5 hours) in continuous operation without payload and can transport approx. 20–25 kg payload over 12.5 km.
- Two integrated computer units: Powered by an 8-core high-performance CPU for control functions and an Intel Core i7 processor for individual developer applications.
- Outstanding climbing ability: Effortlessly overcomes continuous stair steps at least 28 cm high, individual steps up to 90 cm, and inclines up to 45°.
- Versatile development interfaces: Offers dual RS485, dual CAN, Gigabit Ethernet, USB 3.0 Type-C, and supports simulation environments like Isaac Sim for high- & low-level SDKs.
Highlights of the Unitree A2-W Pro (Pro Enhancements)
- Dual LiDAR system: Increased sensor coverage through two integrated laser radars for seamless 360° point cloud all-around vision.
- Triple computing power: Thanks to the High-Computing Expansion Dock, it offers a total of three integrated computing units for compute-intensive AI and autonomy tasks.
- Comprehensive connectivity set: Equipped with a GPS module, 4G cellular, as well as a wireless vector positioning companion module for precise localization.
- Autonomous SLAM navigation: Full mapping, real-time positioning, autonomous path planning, and reliable obstacle avoidance.
- Robust all-weather certification: Housing protection from IP56 up to IP67 (core components in IP67) for uncompromising use in extreme environmental conditions.
Technical Specifications Comparison
Advantage for professionals: The Unitree A2-W series combines the fast, energy-efficient movement of wheeled systems with the all-terrain capabilities of quadrupedal robots. While the standard model provides a high-performance foundation for custom developments and inspections, the Pro version delivers a turnkey, all-in-one autonomy package for demanding outdoor applications thanks to dual LiDAR, an advanced IP67 protection class, 4G/GPS, and triple the computing power.
