UBTECH European launch at Terra Robotics: Three new robot models in Europe for the first time
Terra Robotics
Reading time: approx. 5 minutes
European premiere at Terra Robotics: Together with UBTECH Robotics, we presented three new robot models for the first time in Europe on October 1, 2026, at our headquarters in Löhne. The focus was on the industrial Cruzr Y1, the humanoid research platform Walker Tienkung DEX, and the Walker C1 for service and interaction.
The launch demonstrated one thing above all: modern robotics is increasingly evolving away from universal demonstrators toward specialized platforms for concrete tasks in industry, research, and service.
In addition to the new robots, the focus was on engaging with customers, partners, and experts. Together, they discussed which applications are already realistic today, which technical requirements must be met, and how robotics can be integrated into real-world processes step by step.
European Launch at Terra Robotics Headquarters in Löhne
As the exclusive UBTECH distributor for the DACH region, Terra Robotics works closely with the manufacturer to bring new robotics platforms to Germany, Austria, and Switzerland.
The European launch on October 1 provided the first opportunity to experience three current systems live together:
- UBTECH Cruzr Y1
- UBTECH Walker Tienkung DEX
- UBTECH Walker C1
The three models intentionally pursue different approaches.
While the Cruzr Y1 is aimed at industrial material and handling processes, the Walker Tienkung DEX serves as a high-performance research and development platform. The Walker C1, in turn, transfers humanoid robotics to service, visitor interaction, and public environments.
The launch thus highlighted how broad the range of applications for modern robotics has become.
Cruzr Y1: Embodied Intelligence for Industrial Processes
The Cruzr Y1 was developed for industrial applications where mobility and manipulation must be combined.
The platform features a mobile base and two 7-axis robot arms. This allows the robot to move independently between different workspaces and perform handling tasks there.
Intended areas of application include, among others:
- Material handling
- Sorting and picking
- Loading and unloading
- Palletizing and depalletizing
- Machine tending
- Material supply
- Intralogistics
With a dual-arm rated load of up to 10 kilograms and a reach of approximately 1.8 meters, the Cruzr Y1 is particularly interesting for processes where classic stationary automation is too inflexible and pure transport robotics are insufficient.
Instead of exclusively transporting objects from A to B, the platform can actively interact with materials and workstations.
This creates a link between autonomous mobile robotics and industrial manipulation.
Further information on the current UBTECH platforms can be found on our UBTECH manufacturer page.
Walker Tienkung DEX: Research Platform for Embodied Intelligence
The Walker Tienkung DEX pursues a different approach.
The life-sized humanoid platform was specifically designed for universities, research institutions, developers, and industrial R&D teams.
The focus is on Embodied Intelligence – the combination of artificial intelligence with a physical system that perceives its environment, moves within it, and actively interacts with it.
To this end, the Walker Tienkung DEX offers:
- 31-axis full-body control
- Dexterous manipulation
- High-performance AI compute hardware
- ROS 2 support
- SDK and developer access
- Open interfaces
- Opportunities for robot learning and physical AI
This allows research teams to not only simulate their own algorithms but also test them on a real, full-size platform.
From Simulation to Physical AI
In the field of humanoid robotics, pure software development is not sufficient in the long term.
An algorithm that works in a simulation faces additional challenges in reality: different floor conditions, friction, changing lighting conditions, imprecise object positions, real forces, and unpredictable disruptions.
The Walker Tienkung therefore provides a platform on which topics such as:
- Reinforcement learning
- Imitation learning
- Computer vision
- Motion planning
- Full-body control
- Sim-to-real
- Teleoperation
- Gripping and manipulation
- Human-robot interaction
can be studied in practice.
UBTECH also provides development resources for motion control and robot learning for the Tienkung series.
With the Terra Research Program, Terra Robotics supports universities, research institutes, and development teams in integrating suitable humanoid platforms into research and development projects.
Walker C1: Humanoid Robotics for Everyday Life
The Walker C1, by contrast, is more strongly geared toward commercial and public applications.
UBTECH describes the full-size humanoid as a platform for so-called "Urban Symbiosis" – the future interaction between humans and robots in public and commercial environments.
The Walker C1 combines a humanoid design with dynamic mobility and a multimodal AI system.
Possible fields of application include:
- Greeting visitors
- Reception and guidance
- Visitor tours
- Retail and shopping assistance
- Commercial services
- Events
- Interactive entertainment
- Patrol and security support
- Education
- Research
The robot is intended not only to execute pre-programmed movements but to combine language, perception, movement, and interaction.
For companies with customer contact, this creates new opportunities for reception and service robotics.
Three Platforms for Three Different Requirements
The European launch made it clear that the term humanoid robotics now encompasses very different systems.
Cruzr Y1 – Industry
The Cruzr Y1 combines autonomous mobility with two robot arms and is geared toward concrete handling and logistics processes.
Walker Tienkung DEX – Research
The Walker Tienkung DEX provides an open, full-size platform for Embodied AI, Physical AI, and humanoid robotics development.
Walker C1 – Service
The Walker C1 focuses on human interaction, visitor guidance, and commercial service applications.
The three systems address different challenges while simultaneously showing why robotics projects should always start from the concrete use case.
Not the Robot, but the Task Comes First
When choosing a robot, the first question should therefore not be:
"Which model do we want to use?"
It is more decisive to ask:
"What task do we want to solve?"
An industrial material process has completely different requirements than a research project or a robot in customer contact.
Important factors include, for example:
- Desired task
- Required reach
- Payload
- Objects to be gripped
- Environment and walkways
- Necessary autonomy
- Sensors
- Software access
- Safety requirements
- Operating time
- Interfaces
- Scalability
Only from these requirements can it be determined which robotics platform is actually suitable.
This is precisely the approach that Terra Robotics pursues as a cross-manufacturer solution partner.
From Showcase to Real Robotics Project
A product launch shows what is technologically possible.
The crucial next step, however, is to test this technology under real-world conditions.
Especially with new humanoid and embodied intelligence systems, a gradual entry is therefore recommended.
A typical project workflow might look like this:
1. Identify process
Select a concrete, clearly defined task.
2. Analyze requirements
Define motion sequences, objects, interfaces, safety, and environment.
3. Select suitable platform
Compare robot models based on actual process requirements.
4. Implement Proof of Concept
Test the task under controlled conditions first.
5. Measure results
Evaluate reliability, process quality, interventions, and cost-effectiveness.
6. Further develop application
Only after a successful pilot project does scaling to further processes or locations follow.
This turns a new robotics platform into a robust application step by step.
UBTECH and Terra Robotics Continue to Expand Cooperation
